Isn't it interesting that we can't commit a sin God would consider offensive enough to warrant divorcing us? Isn't it interesting that it is always us who puts separation between Him and us? Who departs from whom? God never initiates a separation from us. He withdraws from us because we depart from Him to pursue our other interests (gods), instead of Him.
The marriage between Hosea and Gomer was to serve as an object lesson to Israel for its relationship with God. But, didn't God have in mind, also, to communicate another lesson; and that being, His loving and forgiving relationship with Israel? Hosea's purchase of his wayward wife was, as you say, the laying down of the blueprint for reconciliation. Obviously, we're pointing to God purchasing us with the blood of Christ, to bring us home.

I don't think God withdraws from us, even when we are as wayward as we could be. He is never-changing. Always faithful. When the line of communication is broken between us and God, God didn't move. Man, in our selfish endeavors, departs from God while He awaits our return (i.e. The Prodigal Son parable). It's exactly as you said yesterday in Huntington Beach- God can be humiliated by His lover and still forgive them, pay the price to have them back (the Cross), and love them exceedingly day in and day out without fail.
